Truth is, I didn’t usually dress for the men I was mad for, with the exception of Chris Hillman. He had recently left the Byrds to join up with Gram Parsons to create “Cosmic American Music,” which was truly music to my ears, baby!
For him I cowgirled up my vintage ultra femme look with boots and an eye-catching turquoise cowboy hat, a western suede vest or a homemade bandana snap shirt. Yee-Hippie-Haw!
Ahhhh, I catapulted back through time, imagining myself dolling up in front of my gilded Hollywood mirror to see my fave band in ‘69, (and into eternity) The Flying Burrito Brothers. I admit I attempted to appear fetching as I braided my hair like a farmgirl on fire, my heart banging around in anticipation. I gazed at my reflection, spinning ‘round and ‘round in my vintage purple calico maxi like I’d soon be doing at the Whisky a Go Go, hoping to catch his eye. Would he see me the way I saw myself? But I could never give in completely, and before leaving for the evening, I added clown make-up and a few sequins on my cheeks for some snazz and spangle.
Mainly I dressed for my mood, state of mind and event, the goal to always stand out and sparkle in a crowd, and reflect who I really was on the inside with my colorful, romantic embellishments. I somehow managed to look entirely different from anyone else while enhancing my God-given assets by dressing for the groupie goddess residing in my heart. And I still dress exactly the way I want to, age-appropriate or not. Look deeply at the beauty that is YOU; discover that dreamy incandescent doll within who wants to grow and glow. Cut her loose, and she’ll be totally free to strut her stuff on the mysterious, merry catwalk of life.

So many times, we put ourselves at the bottom of our love-list, making sure anyone and everyone comes first. Why? I’m a lifelong Jesus-loving girl, as most of you know, and something he said two thousand years ago might give you another perspective: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” YOURSELF. Yes, that’s what he said -- it’s fine and dandy to love love LOVE yourself too.
Read on and discover the secrets of self-love and the joys of loving others...
